Iron<\/strong> (Fe) is the chemical element with atomic number 26 in group 8 of the periodic table of the elements<\/strong>. It is one of the most abundant elements in the earth\u2019s crust<\/strong> and the second most abundant of the metals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steel is considered an alloy of iron if it contains less than 2.1% carbon<\/strong>. If it contains more than 2.1% carbon, it is called cast iron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steel has the metallic characteristics of iron in its pure state<\/strong>, but the addition of carbon and other metallic or non-metallic elements improves its physicochemical properties<\/strong>, especially its strength.
