They contain&nbsp;<strong>between 5% and 12% aluminium<\/strong>. The properties of these alloys are governed by the properties of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/scrapad.com\/en\/materials\/copper\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">copper<\/a>&nbsp;and aluminium when they are melted and fused together in well-controlled, rigorous processes.&nbsp;<strong>Aluminium is soluble in copper up to about 8%<\/strong>&nbsp;by weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aluminum<\/strong>, in this case,&nbsp;<strong>enhances copper by imparting oxidation resistance<\/strong>&nbsp;in the form of a thin, tightly adherent aluminium oxide film. Additionally,&nbsp;<strong>other metals<\/strong>&nbsp;such as manganese,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/scrapad.com\/en\/materials\/nickel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nickel<\/a>, silicon and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/scrapad.com\/en\/materials\/iron-steel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">iron<\/a>&nbsp;<strong>can be added<\/strong>&nbsp;to further improve strength or anti-corrosion properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Types of aluminium bronze<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Unified_numbering_system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Unified Numbering System<\/a>, there are numerous types of aluminium bronze. These alloys are&nbsp;<strong>distinguished mainly on the basis of the amount of primary element<\/strong>&nbsp;(in this case aluminium)&nbsp;<strong>and the number of secondary elements alloyed with copper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically, these&nbsp;<strong>types of aluminum bronze<\/strong>&nbsp;can be classified into four main types:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Single-phase low-alloy alloys<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>They contain&nbsp;<strong>less than 8% aluminium<\/strong>. They have&nbsp;<strong>excellent cold ductility properties<\/strong>, ideal for cold working in tubes, sheets and wires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Moderately alloyed two-phase alloys<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Contain 8-11% aluminium, with small amounts of other elements for strength. These are ideal for hot work applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Copper-aluminium-silicon alloys or silicon-aluminium bronzes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>They contain&nbsp;<strong>up to 6% aluminium and 2% silicon<\/strong>. Like other bronzes, they have&nbsp;<strong>low magnetic permeability<\/strong>, as well as&nbsp;<strong>exceptional resistance to shock loads and vibration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Copper-manganese-aluminium alloys or manganese-aluminium bronzes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike other aluminium bronzes,&nbsp;<strong>manganese is the main alloying element by weight<\/strong>, about 13%,&nbsp;<strong>while aluminium makes up 8-9%<\/strong>. They have excellent resistance&nbsp;<strong>to impact, cavitation and wear<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Aluminium bronze applications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to its mechanical properties, superior corrosion resistance and high castability and machinability,&nbsp;<strong>aluminium bronze is used in a wide range of fields<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maritime sector<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The oxide film produced by aluminium bronze gives it&nbsp;<strong>outstanding corrosion resistance in seawater environments<\/strong>.
