These elements not only increase hardness and wear resistance but also improve their performance at high temperatures. Thus, each metal contributes the following characteristics to HSS steels:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Carbon<\/strong>: increases hardness and wear resistance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tungsten<\/strong>: improves hot hardness and resistance to softening. In addition, if the percentage of tungsten exceeds 18%, the steel is called extra-fast or super-fast.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Molybdenum<\/strong>: increases toughness and corrosion resistance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Chromium<\/strong>: provides hardness and resistance to oxidation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Vanadium<\/strong>: improves wear resistance and hardness.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to these characteristics, products and tools made from <strong>high-speed steels provide better performance than those made from carbon steel<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Characteristics of high-speed steel<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The main characteristics of high-speed tool steels are their <strong>high wear resistance and ability to maintain hardness<\/strong> even at very high temperatures. They require heat treatment to acquire their properties and characteristics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">HSSE or Super High Speed Steel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This type of high speed steel contains cobalt to increase wear resistance and toughness, ideal for cutting tools operating at high speeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">HSS Co5, HSS Co8, HSS Co10<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>These three types are cobalt alloys with different percentages of cobalt, varying from 5 to 10%, giving increased strength and durability in demanding conditions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">HSS with other alloying elements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Elements can range from manganese, molybdenum, tungsten and tungsten in concentrations above 7%, together with carbon above 0.6%.
